Celltrion (068270.KS) has retained the highest grade of "AAA" in the renewal review of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program overseen by the Korea Customs Service.
At the "AEO Certification Ceremony" held on the morning of the 14th at Incheon Main Customs, Celltrion received AAA certificates, the highest grade, in both the export and import categories, in recognition of its trade compliance and logistics security capabilities.
The AEO is a system under which the Korea Customs Service rigorously reviews and certifies four areas of a company — legal compliance, internal control systems, financial soundness, and safety management — in accordance with the international standards of the World Customs Organization (WCO). Beyond a simple certification, it serves as a representative state-recognized indicator that comprehensively verifies a company's global supply chain management capabilities. Among the 773 companies currently holding AEO certification from the Korea Customs Service, only 20 have obtained the highest AAA grade, and Celltrion is the only one in the pharmaceutical and bio industry.
During this renewal review, Celltrion was highly rated for its continuous advancement of internal control and safety management systems. The company has made preemptive efforts not merely to meet certification requirements but to actively utilize the AEO program across its entire global supply chain.
In particular, Celltrion has introduced and operates an "integrated self-inspection system" that allows it to check in advance not only supply chain management linked with overseas logistics partners but also tax reductions (FTA) and the legality of customs clearance. This integrated compliance capability has drawn attention as an international benchmark, to the extent that it was introduced to the UK customs authority as an outstanding benchmarking case during the cooperation process for the "Korea-UK AEO Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA)."
Following its acquisition of the AAA grade for the first time in the industry in 2021, Celltrion will maintain the highest-grade qualification through 2030 by passing this comprehensive review. It is assessed that the company reaffirmed its trade safety in the demanding on-site review conducted on a five-year cycle, further raising its logistics reliability.
Celltrion is expected to maximize its global competitiveness by continuing to enjoy the highest level of benefits in customs administration, including a 100% exemption from export-import declaration document submissions and logistics inspections (excluding random selection). In particular, given the nature of biopharmaceuticals, for which temperature control is critical, the company will maintain the effect of drastically shortening logistics lead times by minimizing customs clearance times and inspection rates, while continuing to enjoy the same fast-track clearance benefits in major countries that have concluded MRAs with Korea, such as the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
Kang Sung-hwan, head of Celltrion's Supply Operations Division, said, "Maintaining the AAA grade through a rigorous renewal review is the result of our efforts to systematically introduce our own customs clearance processes and minimize risks being recognized in the global market." He added, "Based on our top-level customs clearance competitiveness, we will do our best to resolve trade barriers between countries, supply high-quality medicines to patients around the world in a timely manner, and take the lead in enhancing corporate trust."
