Hyundai Motor's hydrogen-powered Elec City bus will be deployed in Oman, and Hyundai Motor Group and Oman have also agreed to cooperate on building eco-friendly mobility infrastructure, including ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers.
Hyundai Motor (005380) Group said on the 4th that it signed a memorandum of understanding on eco-friendly mobility cooperation with Oman's Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and energy distributor OMCO at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex in Salalah, Oman, on the 3rd.
At the center of the agreement is the introduction of Oman's first hydrogen city buses. Mwasalat, Oman's state-run transit operator, will designate a "Green Route" for eco-friendly vehicles on Muscat's public transport network and run a pilot passenger service using Hyundai Motor's Elec City.
Hyundai Motor Group and OMCO will also install and operate 240-kilowatt ultra-fast electric vehicle chargers made by Hyundai Kefico at an OMCO-run filling station in the Halban area. The two sides plan to assess charging performance and demand over six months to lay the groundwork for expanding the charging network.
Through the partnership, Hyundai Motor Group plans to begin its eco-friendly mobility business in Oman's public transport sector and then expand into the general commercial and passenger vehicle markets.
