The sale of Lotte Card is set to resume. Financial authorities have finalized the level of sanctions over a customer data breach, a move seen as partly resolving uncertainty surrounding the deal.
According to financial industry sources on the 3rd, MBK Partners, Lotte Card's largest shareholder, and sale manager UBS plan to distribute an investment memorandum for Lotte Card to potential acquisition candidates as early as this week. They are considering conducting a preliminary bid before the Chuseok holiday.
The sale involves an 80 percent stake held by MBK Partners (59.83 percent) and Woori Bank (20 percent). The remaining 20 percent stake held by Lotte Shopping is excluded from the sale.
Potential candidates being mentioned include KB Financial Group, Hana Financial Group, and Woori Financial Group. KakaoBank is also reportedly showing interest in terms of entering the card business.
Behind the resumption of the sale is the finalization of sanctions by financial authorities. On the 31st of last month, the Financial Services Commission finalized a one-and-a-half-month business suspension and a fine of 5 billion won in connection with Lotte Card's personal data breach.
