POSCO集团宣布将参加釜山气候产业国际博览会，展示HyREX氢冶金等既有脱碳技术

POSCO Group said on the 14th that it will take part in the 2026 Climate Industry International Expo, to be held at BEXCO in Busan from Sept. 16 to 18.
The expo is an international event co-hosted by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the World Bank to drive responses to the climate crisis and the shift toward decarbonization. Under this year's theme, "The Great Transformation Created by Climate Tech: A Leap Toward a Decarbonized World," the event will introduce climate technologies reflecting the latest industry trends and discuss global cooperation on decarbonization.
POSCO Group, attending for the sixth time this year, will run a joint pavilion for four affiliates — POSCO, POSCO International (047050.KS), POSCO E&C and POSCO Holdings (005490.KS) — under the theme "POSCO Opens the K-GX (Green Transformation) Ecosystem With Decarbonized Steel."
The pavilion will consist of four zones: innovative decarbonization technology, core materials, carbon-free energy and the K-GX ecosystem.
In the decarbonization technology zone, POSCO Group will present a model of HyREX, its own hydrogen-based steelmaking process, along with blast furnace bridge technologies and electric arc furnaces. HyREX produces molten iron using hydrogen as a reducing agent instead of coal. POSCO plans to complete a HyREX demonstration plant with annual capacity of 300,000 tons in Pohang in 2028 and to secure commercial technology by 2030.
The core materials zone will display key steel products that support the AX (AI transformation) and GX shifts in manufacturing, including those used in energy storage systems (ESS), data centers, physical artificial intelligence, new mobility and power infrastructure. The zone will also highlight steel's role as an industrial resource for the future.
The carbon-free energy zone will introduce the group's capabilities in carbon-free energy businesses and its competitiveness in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). POSCO International will share the status of its domestic offshore wind and solar projects, pursued in line with the government's push to expand renewable energy, as well as its efforts to diversify its overseas portfolio. POSCO E&C will show how it is expanding GX synergies based on its EPC capabilities in next-generation energy fields such as small modular reactors (SMRs) and high-temperature gas-cooled reactors.
The K-GX ecosystem zone, the centerpiece of the exhibition, will present the group's vision for a "successful model for South Korea's decarbonization ecosystem." It is a large-scale project in which the public and private sectors work together to build the southeastern region into a decarbonization cluster linked to the HyREX demonstration plant. The southeastern region can receive a stable supply of carbon-free energy thanks to abundant nuclear power and is also seen as an optimal site for producing clean hydrogen using water electrolysis facilities.
"We plan to complete commercial technology for hydrogen-based steelmaking and take the lead in building the southeastern cluster into a flagship success model for the K-GX industrial ecosystem, based on the HyREX demonstration plant, thereby raising decarbonization competitiveness across South Korea's manufacturing sector to a new level," an official at POSCO Group said.
