Gaon Cable and DL E&C have successfully completed field validation of a next-generation cable installation technology jointly developed by the two companies, moving into full-scale commercialization.
Gaon Cable (000500.KS) said on the 25th that it applied a conduit-integrated ACF (Aluminum Clad Flex) cable at a newly built apartment complex together with DL E&C, confirming the product's performance and installation efficiency.
The ACF cable is designed with an aluminum protective sheath on the outside of the power cable, allowing it to also serve as electrical conduit. Starting next year, the two companies plan to expand the technology to new apartment complexes built by DL E&C.
The two companies signed an agreement in 2023 for joint research and development of the exposed installation method using ACF cable, and have since worked together on technology development and field applications aimed at improving inefficiencies in conventional electrical work.
Conventional methods require a separate process of inserting wiring after installing conduit, but the ACF cable can combine these steps into one. It is regarded as a next-generation power distribution solution that can cut construction costs by up to 20-30% and shorten installation time. In South Korea, Gaon Cable is the only company that has commercialized and supplies the product.
Applying the ACF cable at apartment complexes had proven difficult, however, because no standard method or detailed guidelines existed for its exposed installation. In response, the two companies developed a dedicated installation method and supporting materials, and focused on installation stability and quality improvement by using DL E&C's Building Information Modeling (BIM) design to precisely calculate the required quantities of materials.
Beyond apartment complexes, the ACF cable is expected to be used in various construction fields such as logistics centers and plants. It is drawing particular attention at renovation sites as an alternative that reduces damage to building structures, since it can be applied in tight spaces without the burden of removing existing conduit or installing additional conduit.
Jung Hyun, CEO of Gaon Cable, said, "As shortening construction periods and securing cost competitiveness emerge as important challenges at construction sites, we expect the ACF cable to establish itself as a new power distribution method." Jung added, "We will continue developing power distribution technologies that improve installation efficiency and cost-effectiveness, and strengthen our competitiveness in domestic and overseas markets."
