Dongkuk Steel (460860) Group is stepping up support for future talent to nurture world-class architects.
Dongkuk Steel Group said on the 30th that it held the appointment ceremony for the first class of the "Songwon Future Architecture Talent Fellowship" at Ferrum Tower in Suha-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 28th. Vice Chairman Jang Se-wook, who also chairs the Songwon Cultural Foundation, attended the ceremony and personally presented letters of appointment to the seven selected students: Ko Yu-jin, Kim Se-yeon, Baek Seung-jae, Oh Chang-kyung, Yoo Ji-hoo, Lee Su-bin and Heo Sang-hyun. They were appointed as "Luxteelier" members and will engage in exchanges on world-renowned architects and buildings.
Luxteelier is an architecture talent network that Dongkuk Steel Group has operated since 2017, serving as a platform for exchange among students, experts and industry. With the launch of the fellowship this year, the group plans to expand the scale and scope of its support. The latest selection drew high competition, with 116 applicants from 43 schools. The first class of fellows will embark on an architecture tour of the United Kingdom next month. Dongkuk Steel Group will cover the full cost of the stay, including airfare and accommodation, as well as all incidental expenses such as local performance tickets and docent programs. The first class of fellows will take part in a one-day workshop at the studio of world-renowned architect Thomas Heatherwick, along with tours of major London buildings, visits to museums and cultural spaces, and exchanges with architecture experts. The second class is scheduled to be selected in the first half of next year.
"As the first class of fellows selected through fierce competition, I hope they take pride in it," Vice Chairman Jang said. "I hope the UK tour becomes a valuable opportunity for them to grow by experiencing world-class architecture and design firsthand." He added, "I look forward to seeing them grow into a close-knit group that exchanges ideas as members of Luxteelier and builds the future of architecture together."
