Rznomics (476830), an RNA-based gene therapy developer, has secured additional research funding while continuing its research on a hereditary deafness treatment being co-developed with global pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly.
Rznomics announced on the 22nd that it received an additional research fund under its ongoing joint research project with Lilly for a hereditary deafness treatment.
Based on a joint research agreement signed last year, the two companies are developing a hereditary deafness treatment utilizing trans-splicing ribozyme technology. Rznomics secured the additional funding after receiving research payments twice in the first half of this year.
The research fund is paid separately from the total contract value, which consists of an upfront payment and milestones. However, in accordance with accounting standards, it is reflected as revenue in the financial statements over the revenue recognition period.
The market for hereditary deafness treatments is also growing in earnest. In April, U.S.-based Regeneron's hereditary deafness gene therapy "Otarmeni" received the world's first approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), marking the beginning of the related market.
"This receipt of additional research funding is an achievement demonstrating that our joint research with Lilly, based on the RNA trans-splicing ribozyme platform, is progressing smoothly," a Rznomics official said. "We will continue to strengthen our research and development (R&D) capabilities and steadily expand our global partnerships."
