Samsung SDS plans to acquire Woojung Air, a South Korean air freight logistics specialist, to expand its air cargo capabilities and global logistics business.
Samsung SDS announced on Oct. 12 that it signed a share purchase agreement to acquire a 100% stake in Woojung Air. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of this year. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Founded in 1999, Woojung Air specializes in consolidating small shipments from multiple customers into larger cargo loads for air transportation. The company provides air freight services under agreements to secure cargo capacity with major domestic and international airlines.
Woojung Air reported revenue of 213.9 billion won and operating profit of 3 billion won last year. Revenue fell 0.3% from a year earlier, while operating profit declined 16.5%. Its operating margin was 1.4%.
Woojung Air also operates a logistics center at Incheon International Airport. The facility functions as an off-airport cargo terminal, allowing security screening and cargo loading outside the airport passenger terminal area. The company also operates iNOMAD, a digital air logistics platform.
Samsung SDS and Woojung Air have maintained a business partnership for several years. In June 2022, the companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to expand their air logistics businesses. Under the MOU, they planned to integrate Woojung Air's cargo tracking and freight rate information into Samsung SDS's digital logistics platform, Cello Square, and jointly develop logistics services for cross-border e-commerce.
Samsung SDS currently uses Cello Square to provide integrated logistics services, including international air and ocean freight, logistics center operations, and inland transportation.
