KKR & Co. Inc. (KKR), an investment firm, has entered into a definitive agreement to make a minority investment in Avisena Healthcare, a Malaysian healthcare provider based in Shah Alam.
The partnership is aimed at supporting Avisena's next phase of growth, including expanding multi-specialty offerings at its flagship hospitals and developing new greenfield hospitals within the Klang Valley.
Founded in 1996, Avisena operates Avisena Specialist Hospital and Avisena Specialist Hospital 2, serving the Shah Alam and Klang Valley communities. Malaysia's private healthcare market continues to see rising demand, with capacity growth lagging behind in key urban areas.
KKR executives emphasized the firm's commitment to supporting Avisena's long-term vision. "Avisena has built a differentiated healthcare platform serving the community for over 30 years, anchored by a strong commitment to delivering quality, accessible patient care," said SJ Lim, Managing Director at KKR.
Avisena's Group CEO, Elina Nadia Omar welcomed the investment, noting that KKR's regional healthcare expertise would strengthen clinical offerings and expand access to high-quality care. "This strategic partnership marks an important milestone for Avisena and we look forward to building on our strong foundation and creating even greater impact in the years ahead," she said.
KKR has invested more than US$20 billion across the global healthcare ecosystem since 2004, with a portfolio spanning Vietnam, the Philippines, India, Japan, and China. In Malaysia, its investments have included OMS Group, Weststar Aviation, and Taylor's Schools.
This investment underscores KKR's strategy of partnering with established healthcare providers to expand clinical capabilities, infrastructure, and patient access across Asia Pacific. For Avisena, it represents a pivotal step in scaling its service to meet growing demand in Malaysia's healthcare sector.
KKR has traded between $82.67 and $152.10 over the past year. The stock closed Thursday's trading at $109.76, up 3.13%. During the afterhours trading session, the stock is at $109.22, down 0.49%.
