Hyundai Motor (005380) is teaming up with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to strengthen Ghana's auto repair training infrastructure and cultivate local vehicle maintenance specialists.
Hyundai Motor said on the 4th that it held a launch ceremony for "Hyundai-KOICA NextGen," a program to develop auto repair talent in Ghana, at the Alisa Hotel in Accra on the 3rd, together with KOICA.
Hyundai-KOICA NextGen is a program the automaker is pursuing in connection with KOICA's Inclusive Business Solution (IBS) program, aiming to improve Ghana's auto repair training environment and expand employment and startup opportunities for young people there. IBS uses corporate business models to help address economic, social and environmental problems in developing countries.
Hyundai Motor and KOICA will jointly invest a total of 5 billion won over five years through 2030, split evenly between the two.
The partners will establish and operate two automotive repair training centers in Ghana, each equipped with a working repair shop. Construction is set to begin in the second half of this year, with completion targeted for 2027.
The program will also update curricula at Ghana's technical and vocational education and training institutions. Existing courses centered on internal combustion engine vehicles will be modernized, and new courses will be added covering repair technology for hybrid and electric vehicles.
Support will extend to employment and entrepreneurship for Ghanaian youth. Hyundai Motor and KOICA will provide scholarships and internship opportunities and hold a job fair once a year, building a support system that runs from training through employment and business startups.
Through the program, the two organizations will directly support 405 local young people and teachers. Teachers who complete the training are expected to spread their expertise across local classrooms, creating a virtuous cycle.
"We hope this project will broaden opportunities for employment and self-reliance among young people in Ghana," a Hyundai Motor official said. "Hyundai Motor will continue projects that develop technical talent and strengthen the competitiveness of the auto industry."
