Samsung C&T's (028260) construction division staged an earnings rebound in the second quarter this year, driven by the full-scale progress of large-scale projects and a strong order intake.
Samsung C&T's construction division posted second-quarter revenue of 3.988 trillion won and operating profit of 202 billion won on the 29th, up 17.5% and 71.2% respectively from a year earlier. The results marked an earnings surprise, with revenue surging 16.8% and operating profit jumping 82% from the previous quarter.
Second-quarter orders were tallied at 5.4 trillion won. In particular, the company secured a total of 4 trillion won in housing construction contracts, including the 2.1 trillion won Apgujeong District 4 reconstruction project, giving a green light to expectations for improved earnings this year.
In a conference call held the same day, Samsung C&T said it expects growth in both revenue and operating profit to continue in the third quarter, driven by factors including the full-scale progress of high-tech construction.
