LG Uplus (032640.KS) has acquired Pago Networks, a managed detection and response (MDR) security firm, and is moving to upgrade its company-wide security systems and expand its business-to-business (B2B) security operations.
LG Uplus said on the 4th that it had acquired the domestic MDR specialist Pago Networks. The strategy is to internalize Pago Networks' threat detection, analysis, and response capabilities to strengthen its internal security response system and to provide integrated security services to corporate clients. The acquisition size and equity stake were not disclosed.
MDR is a service that monitors a company's security environment around the clock, detecting, analyzing, and responding to cyber threats. While conventional security solutions focus on detecting threats, MDR has specialized personnel analyze security events and carry out actual responses. Companies can operate a professional security system while reducing the burden of securing their own security staff.
Pago Networks provides MDR services to companies across various industries, including finance, manufacturing, and information technology (IT), based on its in-house security operations platform 'DeepACT.' It has its own detection rules and threat response procedures, and has also expanded into seven Southeast Asian countries, including Malaysia and the Philippines.
LG Uplus plans to upgrade its internal security systems by utilizing the threat intelligence and response know-how that Pago Networks has accumulated while operating its MDR services. It will also secure the capability to identify and respond to cyber threats in advance based on security data.
The company is also pursuing synergies with its existing security business. LG Uplus offers services including the 'U+ Premium Security Monitoring' security monitoring service, 'AlphaKey,' an integrated authentication service based on post-quantum cryptography (PQC), and 'U+SASE,' a cloud-based security service. By combining MDR with these, it plans to build an integrated security system encompassing authentication, network, monitoring, and threat response. The plan is to broaden its business scope in a direction that supports the entire process, from building corporate clients' security systems to operations and threat response.
This acquisition is part of LG Uplus's 'Secure AI' strategy. Secure AI is not the name of a specific technology but LG Uplus's strategy to strengthen the security of AI services and the data, network, and cloud infrastructure that support them. Through the Pago Networks acquisition, the goal is to add MDR capabilities that detect, analyze, and respond to cyber threats around the clock, creating an environment where corporate clients can use AI services with peace of mind.
LG Uplus plans to target the rapidly growing cybersecurity market while cultivating security as a new growth engine. According to global market research firm DeepMarketInsight, the global cybersecurity market is expected to grow from $260.6 billion in 2025 to $916.9 billion in 2034. Over the same period, the domestic market is also projected to grow at an annual average rate of 14.7%, from $2.89 billion to $9.89 billion. LG Uplus aims to expand the expertise and response scope of its security services to build corporate clients' trust and secure competitiveness in the B2B security market.
Kwon Yong-hyun, Senior Vice President and Head of the Enterprise Division at LG Uplus, said, "This is a decision to provide more complete security services to corporate clients and to enhance LG Uplus's security response capabilities." He added, "We will continue to invest in security and strengthen our capabilities to establish ourselves as a security partner that customers can trust."
