大韩航空与Archer推进军用AAM业务合作

Korean Air announced on the 3rd that it is launching a military "AAM (Advanced Air Mobility)" business in earnest, joining hands with Archer Aviation, a US-based developer of next-generation electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft.
Korean Air (003490) is focusing on the potential for the AAM business to rapidly expand into a national strategic project encompassing the introduction of civilian aircraft verified overseas, the acquisition of military modification technology, phased localization, and eventual exports abroad. The company will lead military modification and systems integration, while Archer will support technology cooperation and airworthiness certification.
The two companies are also detailing their division of roles and technology cooperation plans for military AAM development. In particular, they plan to introduce Archer's AAM aircraft "Midnight," which has been verified by the US Air Force, and modify it to suit domestic conditions to secure efficiency.
Korean Air expects that localization could proceed more quickly if the cooperation with Archer is designated as a rapid demonstration project promoted by the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. Through the rapid demonstration project, the two companies plan to verify the usability of military AAM and establish the foundation for Korea's military AAM business based on that.
They are also reviewing a business model that could pursue exports to third countries through future technology cooperation. This is because it could develop into a Korea-US strategic defense cooperation model capable of preempting the global military AAM market.
An official from Korean Air's Aerospace Business Division said, "Military AAM development is a blue ocean and an opportunity through which the Republic of Korea, among the world's major nations, can secure key future aviation capabilities and leadership in the AAM business," adding, "We will seize the 'golden time' of AAM technology development and create a new defense export model."
