The CJ Cultural Foundation has selected five students entering overseas music colleges and graduate schools, including Berklee College of Music, as scholarship recipients this year. To nurture global music talent, the foundation plans to support them with tuition and living expenses, as well as access to performance venues and recording studios.
The CJ Cultural Foundation said on the 4th that it held the "2026 CJ Music Scholarship Award Ceremony" the previous day at the CJ CheilJedang Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, presenting scholarship certificates to five students across three categories: Berklee College of Music, overseas music graduate schools, and the CJ-Fulbright Music Graduate School Scholarship Program.
The CJ Music Scholarship Program, launched in 2011, is Korea's first and only support program for students studying pop music abroad. It was established to ease the financial burden of studying overseas and to nurture musicians who will perform on the global stage. As of last year, it has produced a total of 229 scholarship recipients.
In the Berklee College of Music category, Lee Min-young, who majors in saxophone, was selected as the recipient of the "CJ-Berklee Presidential Full Scholarship." This marks the eighth consecutive year since 2019 that a "Berklee Presidential Full Scholarship" recipient has been produced. The recipient receives approximately $78,000 per year, including annual tuition and dormitory fees, for up to four years.
The "CJ-Berklee Excellence Scholarship" went to Kang Sung-jin and Yoo Jung-hyun. Based on piano, the two students major in independent recording and production, and performance and film and media, respectively, receiving an annual scholarship of $16,000.
In the overseas music graduate school category, Han Mir, who is entering the jazz major program at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in the Netherlands, was selected. The recipient receives an annual scholarship of $10,000 for up to three years.
For the CJ-Fulbright Music Graduate School Scholarship Program, jointly operated by the CJ Cultural Foundation and the Korean-American Educational Commission, Kwon Ye-sung, who is entering the master's program in Jazz Studies at New York University, was selected. Depending on academic achievement, the recipient receives tuition and living expenses totaling up to $140,000 over as many as three years. Support for all aspects of study-abroad life is also provided, including U.S. State Department health insurance, family allowances and round-trip airfare.
The CJ Cultural Foundation also supports the creative activities of its scholarship recipients. It allows them free use of the "CJ Azit" facility, which is equipped with a performance venue and recording studio, and provides priority participation in the foundation's performance and music education programs, helping them build both academic knowledge and practical experience.
"Studying abroad is an important process of experiencing diverse music and cultures while expanding one's own musical world," a CJ Cultural Foundation official said. "We will continue to support scholarship recipients so that they can focus on learning and creating in a new environment and grow into global musicians."
