Gaon Cable, a subsidiary of LS Cable & System, is expanding its role in supplying power infrastructure for SK Hynix's semiconductor manufacturing facilities.
The company said on July 15 that it has supplied tens of billions of won worth of power distribution cables to SK Hynix's Yongin semiconductor cluster. The distribution cables deliver electricity to production lines and manufacturing equipment.
The latest contract expands Gaon Cable's supply footprint from SK Hynix's existing manufacturing sites in Icheon and Cheongju to the Yongin cluster, strengthening its position in the semiconductor power infrastructure market. The company aims to capitalize on demand arising from new fab construction as well as expansion and replacement projects at existing production facilities.
Gaon Cable said it is in discussions for additional supply contracts worth tens of billions of won in the second half of the year. The company is also seeking to participate in power infrastructure projects for semiconductor manufacturing facilities being developed by a US company.
Jung Hyun, chief executive officer of Gaon Cable, said semiconductor manufacturing facilities require massive power infrastructure investments and that the company plans to expand its business into global semiconductor power infrastructure markets, including the United States.
