Nasdaq rises more than 1% as chip stocks extend rebound from bear market territory
Investing.com --Mitsubishi Electric Corp (TYO:6503) and Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corp said on Wednesday they will establish a joint venture to develop AI-powered vision sensors for manufacturing applications, as the Japanese companies seek to accelerate factory automation amid persistent labor shortages and rising demand for autonomous industrial systems.
The companies will establish Advanced Vision Solutions, a joint venture that is expected to begin operations in October 2026, subject to regulatory approvals. Mitsubishi Electric will own 60% of the venture, while Sony Semiconductor Solutions will hold the remaining 40%.

The venture will develop AI-enabled vision sensor solutions capable of analyzing visual data directly on image sensors, allowing manufacturing equipment to identify changes in production environments and automatically feed those insights into operational decision-making and machine control. The companies said the technology is designed to improve production quality, enable predictive maintenance and support labor-saving and unmanned manufacturing operations.
The partnership combines Sony's image sensor and edge AI technologies with Mitsubishi Electric's factory automation systems and industrial control expertise. Beyond visual data, the companies plan to integrate information from multiple sources across production sites to develop multimodal manufacturing systems capable of detecting anomalies and optimizing operations with minimal human intervention.
They said the initiative is intended to advance the deployment of physical AI in factory automation while making AI-powered industrial solutions easier to deploy without specialized expertise in optics or artificial intelligence.
Mitsubishi Electric said the joint venture will complement its digital manufacturing platform, Serendie, and help build a new factory automation solutions business centered on AI vision sensors. Sony Semiconductor Solutions said the partnership will expand the use of its sensing technologies beyond image capture by connecting visual data directly to industrial decision-making and machine control.
The deal comes as manufacturers increasingly invest in AI-driven automation to offset labor shortages, improve production efficiency and enable autonomous factory operations, with industrial AI emerging as one of the fastest-growing applications of artificial intelligence beyond data centers.
