Lattice Semiconductor's MachXO5™-NX TDQ FPGA family, winner of the Best Post-Quantum Cryptography award at the 2026 Cybersecurity Stars Awards. (Source: The Hacker News)
US programmable semiconductor company Lattice Semiconductor has received industry recognition for its cybersecurity technology.
Lattice announced on July 1 that its Lattice MachXO5™-NX TDQ FPGA family won the Best Post-Quantum Cryptography award at the 2026 Cybersecurity Stars Awards, hosted by cybersecurity publication The Hacker News.
The product family is Lattice's in-house secure control FPGA platform. A field-programmable gate array (FPGA) is a semiconductor device that can be reprogrammed for different applications, allowing users to modify hardware logic after deployment. As encryption standards evolve, FPGA-based systems can be updated through software rather than requiring replacement of the hardware.
Post-quantum cryptography (PQC) refers to cryptographic technologies designed to withstand attacks from large-scale quantum computers. As quantum computing dramatically increases computing performance, governments and industries are strengthening the protection of encrypted communications, financial and medical records, classified information, and critical industrial and communications infrastructure against future quantum-enabled cyberattacks.
Lattice said the MachXO5-NX TDQ FPGA family combines hardware-based security, crypto agility and native support for PQC. Hardware-based security reduces dependence on software by performing security functions directly within the silicon.
The product family incorporates a hardware Root of Trust (RoT), secure boot that allows only authenticated code to execute during startup, and encrypted and authenticated bitstreams that protect FPGA design data from theft or tampering. These hardware-level security capabilities help prevent unauthorized bitstream access, system malfunction caused by manipulation and potential security vulnerabilities.
Crypto agility enables systems to rapidly adopt new cryptographic algorithms as standards evolve. Lattice said the FPGA architecture meets the reconfiguration requirements needed to support future PQC standards. The company added that the product family supports PQC algorithms approved by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) as well as security requirements based on the Commercial National Security Algorithm Suite (CNSA) 2.0.
A recent US executive order establishes migration deadlines for post-quantum cryptography across federal High Value Assets (HVAs) and high-impact systems. The deadline for transitioning key establishment mechanisms is the end of 2030, while the deadline for digital signature migration is the end of 2031. Lattice said the accelerated transition schedule is driving increased demand for proven security solutions that are ready for immediate deployment.
The MachXO5-NX TDQ FPGA family is currently shipping and has already been deployed in multiple customer systems. Lattice did not disclose customer names or shipment volumes.
