Doosan Enerbility (034020.KS) will supply ultra-large forgings for steam generators to Units 5 and 6 of the Laiyang Nuclear Power Plant in Shandong Province, China.
Doosan Enerbility said on the 27th that it signed a contract on the 14th with DEI and DFHM, affiliates of China's Dongfang Electric Group, to supply ultra-large forgings for steam generators to be used in Laiyang Units 5 and 6.
A steam generator is a core nuclear power facility that produces steam using heat generated from the reactor. The steam turns turbines to generate electricity.
Through the contract, Doosan Enerbility plans to supply a total of eight ultra-large forgings, including four channel heads and four tube sheets for steam generators used in Laiyang Units 5 and 6, sequentially through 2029.
The forgings supplied this time are ultra-large products measuring 5 meters in diameter and weighing up to 130 tons, serving as core materials for nuclear steam generators. Doosan Enerbility manufactures core nuclear power equipment using one of the world's largest 17,000-ton presses and ultra-large forging technology, supplying it to the global nuclear power market.
Laiyang Units 5 and 6 apply the "CAP1400," China's next-generation 1,400-megawatt (MW) nuclear power model. Following forgings for the steam generators of Laiyang Units 3 and 4 last year, Doosan Enerbility won a consecutive order for Units 5 and 6, once again earning recognition for its technological capabilities and quality competitiveness in the Chinese nuclear power market.
In particular, the company is known to have received high marks for its quality and delivery performance capabilities based on its past experience supplying forgings for the steam generators of the Haiyang AP1000 nuclear power plant.
"Following Laiyang Units 3 and 4, the contract to supply key materials for Units 5 and 6 has continued, once again earning recognition for our technological capabilities and quality competitiveness in the Chinese nuclear power market," said Kim Jong-doo, president of Doosan Enerbility. "Based on our accumulated manufacturing experience and ultra-large forging technology, we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the global nuclear power supply chain."
In line with its nuclear power expansion policy, China is continuously pursuing the construction of new nuclear power plants and aims to become the world's largest nuclear power holder by 2035. Doosan Enerbility plans to use this contract as an opportunity to expand cooperation with the Chinese nuclear power market while continuing to increase its supply of core equipment in the global nuclear power supply chain.
