SOT106, a drug candidate built on the antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) platform technology of Ligachem Biosciences (141080), has been granted fast track designation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Ligachem Biosciences said on the 27th that SOT106 (LRRC15-ADC), under development by its partner Sotio Biotech, received FDA fast track designation for the treatment of soft tissue sarcoma.
SOT106 combines Sotio's LRRC15-targeting antibody with ConjuAll, Ligachem Biosciences' next-generation ADC platform. LRRC15 (Leucine-rich repeat-containing 15), the target of SOT106, is a protein broadly expressed across multiple sarcoma subtypes. Sotio plans to develop SOT106 for patients with a range of soft tissue sarcomas, where treatment options are limited.
Ligachem Biosciences signed an ADC platform technology licensing agreement with Sotio in November 2021. Under the deal, Sotio secured global development and commercialization rights to multi-target ADC therapies using ConjuAll. SOT106 is the first ADC candidate to emerge from the agreement.
The FDA's fast track program is designed to speed the development and review of treatments that may address unmet medical needs in serious conditions. Designated candidates can consult with the FDA more frequently and, if requirements are met, may shorten development and approval timelines through mechanisms such as rolling review and priority review.
SOT106 was also granted FDA orphan drug designation for the treatment of osteosarcoma in May. Sotio plans to begin its first-in-human trial of SOT106 this year.
"Soft tissue sarcoma has seen decades of drug development, yet remains a prime example of unmet medical need, with no meaningful improvement in outcomes for patients with advanced or recurrent disease," said Vivi Boura, chief medical officer at Sotio. "This fast track designation is an important regulatory milestone that supports the potential of SOT106's differentiated design and its LRRC15-targeting strategy to offer a new treatment option to patients across multiple soft tissue sarcoma subtypes."
