Genesis G90改款将首次采用LG Display车载P-OLED中控屏

The new Genesis G90, expected to launch in the second half of this year, will feature an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display, with LG Display supplying the panel. Along with the recently unveiled flagship SUV GV90, the G80, GV80, GV70 and GV60 will all use OLED displays.
According to industry sources on Sept. 4, LG Display will supply plastic OLED (P-OLED) for the center information display in the facelifted G90. The center information display is positioned in the center fascia of the dashboard and shows infotainment information such as navigation and media. The screen is expected to measure about 18 inches. It will be the first use of OLED in the G90 lineup, including its predecessor, the EQ900, which was launched in 2015.
The G90 has previously relied primarily on high-end liquid crystal displays (LCDs) for its driver displays. The EQ900 and the G90 launched in 2018 used a 7-inch LCD cluster and a 12.3-inch center information display. The fourth-generation G90 unveiled in 2021 increased both the cluster and center information display to 12.3 inches.
P-OLED uses polyimide (PI) instead of glass as its substrate. This allows panels to be made thinner and lighter and designed with curves to fit vehicle interiors. Because OLED is self-emissive, it also offers advantages in reducing thickness and weight compared with LCDs, which require a separate backlight.
OLEDs are classified as rigid, flexible or hybrid depending on factors including panel form, substrate and encapsulation structure. Rigid OLEDs generally use glass substrates and have a fixed shape, while flexible OLEDs can bend or fold. P-OLED is LG Display's product for automotive OLEDs using a PI substrate and thin-film encapsulation (TFE).
LG Display's automotive P-OLED uses a tandem structure that stacks two organic light-emitting layers. The structure can improve brightness and lifespan compared with OLEDs using a single emitting layer. The technology is designed to provide the durability required for automotive displays that are exposed to high and low temperatures, vibration and other conditions for extended periods.
LG Display began mass production of automotive tandem P-OLED in 2019. It supplied 17.7-inch center P-OLED displays for the Mercedes-Benz EQS and EQE. For Genesis, the company is known to have supplied 27-inch-class panoramic OLED displays for models including the G80 and GV70, starting with the facelifted GV80 in 2023.
The existing 27-inch product is an integrated display that horizontally combines the instrument cluster and navigation screen. The roughly 18-inch product for the G90 instead enlarges the center information display in the center fascia, giving it a different placement and screen configuration.
The recently launched Genesis GV90 large electric sport utility vehicle (SUV) uses OLED displays from Samsung Display. A 24.6-inch pop-up OLED is installed in the center of the vehicle, while 13.2-inch OLED displays are fitted to the backs of the front-seat headrests.
Genesis' adoption of OLED in the flagship G90 sedan following its use in the top-end GV90 SUV reflects the expansion of OLED displays into premium new vehicles. Samsung Display will supply OLEDs for the GV90, while LG Display will supply them for the G90, putting both companies' OLED panels in Genesis' top-tier models.
The new G90 is a facelift of the fourth-generation model unveiled in 2021. Industry sources expect Hyundai Motor to unveil the new G90 toward the end of this year and begin mass production at its Ulsan Plant 5 in December.
"We cannot confirm matters related to customers," an LG Display official said.
