Major Korean retail companies have been recognized for their efforts to sustain win-win cooperation with small and medium-sized enterprises in the retail sector.
The Korea Federation of SMEs (KBIZ) said it held the "6th Retail Cooperation Conference" on the 21st at the KBIZ headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, and presented awards to retail companies excelling in cooperation.
The event was attended by KBIZ Chairman Kim Ki-mun, Ministry of SMEs and Startups Second Vice Minister Lee Byung-kwon, Fair Trade Commission Vice Chairman Nam Dong-il, Korea Department Store Association Chairman Jeong Ji-young, Korea Online Shopping Association Chairman Cho Sung-hyun, and Korea Chain Stores Association Vice Chairman Heo Young-jae. About 100 officials from large retail firms and small and medium-sized retail companies also joined.
The Fair Trade Commission Chairman's Award went to Hyundai Department Store (069960) and E-mart (139480). The National Assembly Political Affairs Committee Chairman's Award and the Win-Win Growth Committee Chairman's Award went to 11st and Lotte On, respectively. The award-winning companies presented their exemplary cooperation cases and expressed their intention to continue their cooperative efforts centered on the Retail Cooperation Council and the SME Retail Cooperation Committee.
Chairman Kim Ki-mun stressed, "As the domestic sluggishness prolongs due to population decline and shrinking consumer sentiment, and with the intensifying offensive from overseas e-commerce players such as AliExpress, Temu, and Shein, Korea's retail industry faces an unprecedented crisis." He added, "The solution to overcome this crisis is win-win cooperation between large and small businesses." He continued, "I hope the National Assembly and the government will actively step up with legislation and policy support so that the retail industry ecosystem can grow together."
