- Deokyang Energen
- Deokyang Energen

SK Innovation (096770) E&S is expanding hydrogen refueling infrastructure with Deokyang Energen (0001A0), a domestic producer and supplier of industrial hydrogen. Combining SK Innovation E&S, which has built its supply chain around liquefied hydrogen, with Deokyang Energen's expertise in industrial gaseous hydrogen is expected to improve supply stability at hydrogen refueling stations.
SK Innovation E&S said it signed a memorandum of understanding with Deokyang Energen on gaseous hydrogen supply and hydrogen refueling station cooperation on the 2nd at SK Green Campus in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Deokyang Energen will invest in building gaseous hydrogen refueling facilities on sites near existing liquefied hydrogen stations operated by SK Innovation E&S, and will supply the gaseous hydrogen. SK Innovation E&S will handle demand development for commercial hydrogen vehicles as well as the construction and operation of combined gaseous and liquefied hydrogen refueling stations.
The two companies will proceed in phases, focusing on five stations judged most viable after weighing business feasibility and regional hydrogen demand. Total project cost per station is about 6 billion won, and each is expected to supply roughly 180 tons of gaseous hydrogen a year.
Through the partnership, Deokyang Energen will extend its hydrogen customer base beyond industrial users into mobility. The strategy is to expand gaseous hydrogen production and supply capabilities built around refiners, petrochemical makers and other industrial customers into markets such as hydrogen buses, securing a stable base of new demand. The company will invest part of the proceeds raised in its public offering in building hydrogen refueling stations.
By adding a gaseous hydrogen supply chain to a hydrogen mobility business centered on liquefied hydrogen, SK Innovation E&S will diversify its hydrogen sources and build refueling infrastructure that can respond flexibly to changing supply conditions. In May 2024, the company completed a liquefied hydrogen plant in Incheon with annual capacity of 30,000 tons and has been supplying liquefied hydrogen to the domestic hydrogen mobility market.
"The significance of this partnership is that it creates new hydrogen demand by combining the capabilities of Deokyang Energen and SK Innovation E&S," said Kim Ki-chul, chief executive of Deokyang Energen. "We will expand our industrial-focused hydrogen supply base into mobility and, drawing on both companies' strengths, build a stable and competitive hydrogen supply system."
"For the hydrogen mobility market to keep growing, it is important to have the foundation to supply competitive hydrogen reliably," said Jeon Young-jun, head of the new energy business division at SK Innovation E&S. "Based on a stable supply base spanning both liquefied and gaseous hydrogen, we will expand hydrogen mobility demand and contribute to building a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem."
