HS Hyosung 与 Umicore 的合资公司就蔚山硅基负极厂签 MOU(1.2 万亿韩元、2030 年达产,首期 2028Q1)。

HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea said it signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ulsan city government on the 14th at Ulsan City Hall to build a silicon anode production plant in the city.
Lee Ki-soo, chief executive of HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea, and Ulsan Mayor Kim Sang-wook attended the signing ceremony.
HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea is a joint venture established by HS Hyosung Group (487570.KS) with Belgium's Umicore to move into the silicon anode business, a key material for next-generation batteries. It is the group's first new business venture since its corporate separation.
Under the agreement, HS Hyosung Energy Solution Korea will invest a total of 1.2 trillion won ($860 million) in the Ulsan-Mipo National Industrial Complex to build mass production capacity for silicon anodes by 2030. The investment will proceed in three stages. The company will first spend 300 billion won to complete a plant, MPK-1, with annual capacity of 5,000 tons by the first quarter of 2028.
Silicon anodes deliver higher energy density than conventional graphite anodes and support faster charging, making them a core material for next-generation batteries aimed at extending electric vehicle driving range and shortening charging times.
The company said it will give hiring priority to Ulsan residents during construction and operation of the plant to create local jobs and support the regional economy. The Ulsan city government said it will cooperate to ensure the investment proceeds without disruption and that the company settles in the region, while providing administrative support including permits and licenses.
"Through this investment, we plan to develop the next-generation battery materials industry into a national strategic industry and help strengthen the competitiveness of global supply chains in key sectors such as semiconductors, shipbuilding and defense," Lee said. "As we have chosen Ulsan, the birthplace of Hyosung Group, as our first investment site, we will establish ourselves as a company that grows together with the region."
"This agreement will be an important turning point for Ulsan to further strengthen its competitiveness in next-generation battery materials and lead the global supply chain in the secondary battery industry," Kim said. "We will spare no administrative support so that this leads to quality job creation in the region and joint growth of related industries."
