Homeplus, the retailer facing bankruptcy, is expected to secure 200 billion won in emergency operating funds.
According to the retail industry and the Homeplus General Labor Union on the 15th, MBK Partners, Homeplus's major shareholder, and Meritz Financial Group, its largest creditor, agreed that afternoon to provide 200 billion won in emergency operating funds.
Min Byoung-dug, chairman of the Democratic Party's Eulji-ro Committee, visited the site of the "Homeplus Workers and Merchants Rally" held in Seoul that afternoon and said, "In the morning, we held close consultations through an emergency meeting with the Mart Union leadership." Min added, "The 200 billion won issue will be resolved by tomorrow," and "Through this, we will prevent Homeplus's bankruptcy and begin the work of reviving Homeplus in earnest."
Earlier, the Seoul Bankruptcy Court decided on the 3rd to terminate Homeplus's rehabilitation proceedings. However, the court said the decision could be canceled if Homeplus raised 200 billion won in emergency operating funds and filed an immediate appeal by the 20-day appeal deadline.
