Naver and Naver Cloud executives met with leading artificial intelligence (AI) companies and government officials in Brazil and Chile during President Lee Jae-myung's tour of South America, seeking to enter the region's AI infrastructure market.
Naver said on the 4th that Team Naver executives, including CEO Choi Soo-yeon, Strategic Planning Division Head Koo Dong-hyun and Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yu-won, joined the economic delegation accompanying the tour of three South American countries and discussed collaboration plans with leading local AI companies.
In Brazil, Team Naver executives met with the management of Scala Data Centers (SDC) and Tecto Data Centers (TDC), companies that operate large-scale AI data center and cloud businesses. SDC is pursuing the "Scala AI City" project to build an ultra-large AI data center campus with an eventual capacity of 4.75GW in Eldorado do Sul in southern Brazil, while TDC is advancing the TGRU1 project to build a high-density, AI-specialized data center of up to 200MW in Santana de Parnaíba in the greater São Paulo area.
Team Naver, SDC and TDC discussed a collaboration model in which Team Naver would directly operate GPUs and AI cloud services at the AI data centers being built by each company, while selling compute to companies and AI startups in Brazil and neighboring countries. They also exchanged views on an AIDC technology exchange partnership based on Team Naver's non-stop operation of its Chuncheon and Sejong facilities, its high-efficiency liquid cooling technology know-how, and its experience in pursuing gigawatt-scale AI DC projects.
During the subsequent visit to Chile, executives met with the management of Entel, the country's largest telecommunications carrier that also operates digital solutions businesses including corporate security, cloud, and Internet of Things (IoT) services. They discussed collaboration across various fields, including Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) distribution, smart city projects, and GPU cluster construction.
Team Naver executives also met with senior Chilean government officials, including Carolina Rossi, Vice Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, and Eduardo Munt, chief of staff to the Vice Minister of Finance, to explore collaboration possibilities such as AI transformation projects for the Chilean government and public institutions and a national data center construction project. In particular, Team Naver introduced AI solutions that Naver Cloud operates in actual public settings, including the government-wide intelligent work management platform "NaverWorks" and the AI wellness call service "Clova CareCall."
"South America is emerging as a new hub for global AI infrastructure, backed by abundant energy resources and rapidly growing digital demand," Choi said. "Since this tour allowed us to confirm concrete collaboration opportunities where Naver's full-stack AI technology and operational experience can be applied together with local governments and major companies, we will make practical contributions to the development of related industries, such as building AI infrastructure in the South American region, through follow-up working-level discussions."
