AI services company ESTsoft said on July 13 that it will participate as a member of the UBN Consortium in the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs' AI commercialization program for the agriculture and food sector.
The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) and the Korea Agriculture Technology Promotion Agency (KOAT), is designed to accelerate the commercialization of AI applications in agriculture and expand AI-driven digital transformation across the sector. The program has a total budget of 71.4 billion won.
Under the project, ESTsoft will commercialize a large language model (LLM)-based autonomous smart farming AI agent tailored for agricultural applications.
The smart farming AI agent is an autonomous cultivation system that continuously monitors farming data and environmental conditions in real time, recommends optimal actions and directly controls farming operations. The system also includes an AI chatbot capable of analyzing farm data, identifying anomalies and management priorities, and providing customized advisory services based on academic research.
ESTsoft will build the smart farming AI agent using its proprietary Alan LLM. The company said it will develop an agriculture-specific AI agent through a three-stage fine-tuning process that includes upgrading Alan's LLM-based reasoning engine and multi-agent system, building a hybrid retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) framework based on agricultural knowledge, and enhancing a multi-layer safety control architecture.
The company also plans to develop a proactive AI assistant capable of integrating and analyzing user queries, sensor abnormalities and weather alerts to make operational decisions and carry out follow-up actions.
ESTsoft said it aims to design an intuitive user experience that is easy to use, recognizing the structural challenge facing Korea's agricultural sector, where 55.8% of farmers are aged 65 or older.
