KG Mobility is expanding a zone-based autonomous robotaxi service it operates in Seoul's Gangnam area in partnership with SWM.ai.
The company said on the 2nd that it will supply the Torres EVX, a second-generation autonomous robotaxi, to Seoul's late-night self-driving taxi project in Gangnam, adding to the Korando EV already in service.
The Torres EVX reflects KG Mobility's latest mobility technology, featuring a range of advanced sensor systems, control technology and safety specifications.
Improved electric powertrain technology allows the vehicle to provide transport services over longer periods across a wider service area.
SWM.ai has advanced its autonomous driving artificial intelligence using driving data accumulated through its robotaxi service.
By combining that with the Torres EVX's advanced sensors, the companies reduced the number of sensors from more than 40 to about 20.
The robotaxi service area will expand from parts of Gangnam and Seocho districts to the entire Gangnam self-driving vehicle pilot zone, covering 20.4 square kilometers.
The companies plan to seek approval from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport to allow autonomous driving across the entire zone, including school zones.

"The autonomous robotaxi jointly developed by KG Mobility and SWM.ai has recorded 13,214 cumulative rides since it began operating in September 2024," a KG Mobility official said. "KG Mobility plans to expand the service through joint development with various autonomous driving companies, and to accelerate development of an advanced self-driving vehicle platform in preparation for plans to expand autonomous driving demonstration city services nationwide."
The two companies signed a memorandum of understanding in 2022 on technology cooperation for advance development of Level 4 urban autonomous driving to provide robotaxi services.
