Siemens Energy(ENR1n.DE) plans to sell most of its division supplying industrial customers, it said on Tuesday, in a move aimed at sharpening the supplier of power equipment's focus on the booming utility sector.
Siemens Energy's Transformation of Industry (ToI) business unit - which among other products makes steam turbines and electrolysers - accounted for €5.7 billion ($6.7 billion), or 15%, of group sales last year, with a profit margin of 11%.
Siemens Energy said the future setup was aimed at providing ToI "with greater entrepreneurial flexibility and additional options for further growth – ranging from bringing in external investors to a potential capital markets transaction."
The group said it planned to deconsolidate the business while retaining a meaningful minority stake.
The announcement confirms the company's efforts to simplify its set-up, which is mostly focused on customers requiring components to produce electricity, including gas and wind turbines as well as grid equipment.
Sources told Reuters in early August that the group's supervisory board would discuss the plans this week.
