Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc.(VNDA.US)

Vanda Pharmaceuticals Inc. (VNDA) announced that the European Commission has granted Orphan Drug Designation to its investigational drug Imsidolimab for the treatment of generalized pustular psoriasis.
This approval follows a positive opinion from the European Medicines Agency's (EMA) Committee for Orphan Medicinal Products (COMP).
Generalized Pustular Psoriasis is a rare, severe and potentially life-threatening inflammatory skin disease driven by dysregulation in the interleukin-36 (IL-36) signaling pathway.
This marks the first time the European Commission has recognized orphan designation in GPP within the EU. Clinically distinct from plaque psoriasis, GPP is characterized by widespread pustular eruptions, systemic inflammation, and serious complications that can increase mortality risk.
Imsidolimab works by inhibiting IL-36 receptor signaling, addressing deficiencies in the natural IL-36 receptor antagonist often observed in patients with GPP.
Orphan Designation in the EU is reserved for medicines targeting rare, life-threatening, or chronically debilitating conditions affecting fewer than 5 in 10,000 people. Benefits include protocol assistance, reduced regulatory fees, and market exclusivity following approval.
Dr. Mihael H. Polymeropoulos, Vanda's President, CEO and Chairman stated that the designation represents an important milestone for the GPP community and reinforces the company's commitment to advancing Imsidolimab in Europe, the United States and Japan, where orphan status has been granted.
In addition, the Biologics License Application (BLA) for GPP is currently under FDA review, with a target action date of December 12, 2026.
VNDA has traded between $4.27 and $9.94 over the past year. The stock closed Friday's trading (August 21, 2026) at $5.28, down 1.86%. In pre-market trading the stock is at $5.60, up 6.06%.
