Brazil's government will extend a gasoline subsidy worth 0.44 reais ($0.0855) per liter until September 9, two sources close to the matter told Reuters on Tuesday.
The subsidy, which is paid to gasoline producers and importers and was created after the start of the U.S.-Iran conflict in the Middle East to curb the impact of rising global oil prices on domestic consumers, was set to end on Wednesday.
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva's administration had last extended the subsidy on July 26 for another 30 days.
The government could not extend the benefit for another month this time since the presidential decree allowing its creation expires on September 9, and congressional approval remains pending.
Local newspaper Valor Economico first reported the government's plan earlier on Tuesday, citing a source at the finance ministry. The ministry declined to comment.
In June, the government had decided to eliminate part of a diesel subsidy when oil prices retreated as tensions in the Middle East eased, but the external relief proved temporary amid a still-ongoing conflict.
The subsidies, among other measures aimed at the fuel sector, are part of a broad relief plan established by Lula since the start of the war in Iran. The leftist leader is seeking another four-year term in October's presidential election.
