Hanwha Ocean said Oct. 12 it is preparing to develop nuclear-powered submarines, establishing a dedicated organization and recruiting experienced professionals to build in-house technical capabilities and lay the groundwork for the business.
The newly established Jangbogo N Development Group will serve as the company's external liaison with the government, the Navy and other relevant organizations. It aims to incorporate customer requirements through close coordination and pool the expertise of nuclear engineering specialists to help secure key capabilities for the Navy's future fleet.
The company is recruiting candidates with at least five years of experience in areas including nuclear and propulsion-system integration design, piping layout and stress analysis engineering, instrumentation and control (I&C) integration design, nuclear licensing and safety regulations, and nuclear quality assurance (QA). Applications close Oct. 25.
Choi Jung-hoon, executive vice president and head of the Jangbogo N Development Group within Hanwha Ocean's Naval Ship Business Division, said the company would recruit specialists to address the demands of a new reactor environment, including rapid turns, high-maneuverability operations and mitigation of blast shock.
