Hyundai Glovis (086280) said on the 20th that it has reached 2 million cumulative used-car auction listings.
The achievement marks a record set 25 years after the company launched the business in 2001, and is the first such case among used-car auction operators in Korea. Hyundai Glovis said the milestone reflects the used-car distribution competitiveness it has built based on its nationwide auction network and online contactless auction platform.
Lining up 2 million listed vehicles at 4.5 meters each, the length of a single passenger car, would stretch about 9,000 kilometers. This is equivalent to the distance from Seoul to San Francisco in the United States.
Hyundai Glovis had earlier surpassed 1 million cumulative used-car listings in 2018 and 1.5 million in 2023. The company explained that it sustained its growth through rising demand for used-car exports, the expansion of auction bases, and increased direct purchases from ordinary customers via the Autobell Sell-My-Car service.
Hyundai Glovis listed about 10,000 vehicles in its first year of business through the Autobell Bundang Auction Center in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, in 2001. It went on to supply more than 250,000 used cars cumulatively before opening the Autobell Sihwa Auction Center in 2008. It later opened Autobell auction centers in Yangsan, South Gyeongsang Province, in 2012, and in Incheon in 2023. The four centers operate the country's largest network of about 2,800 auction member companies, shipping about 150,000 vehicles a year.
The contactless auction system is also cited as a major factor behind the growth. In 2020, Hyundai Glovis introduced "Autobell Smart Auction," Korea's first network auction system exclusively for used-car auction members. Smart Auction is an online system that integrates used-car listing information, previously managed separately at each auction center, on a cloud-based platform. Through Smart Auction, auction member companies can participate via smartphone or PC in auctions held at Sihwa and Bundang (twice a week) and Yangsan and Incheon (once a week).
"Through base expansion and continuous system improvements, we have set a new milestone of 2 million vehicles in the domestic auction market," a Hyundai Glovis official said. "Going forward, we will continue to enhance the convenience of the used-car auction market through ongoing technological innovation and market expansion, and take the lead in building a healthy used-car distribution ecosystem."
