Glaukos Expands Retina Pipeline With Novel Biologic Licensing Deal; Stock Down

Glaukos Corporation (
GKOS
) has entered into an exclusive licensing agreement with RevOpsis to develop and commercialize RO-104, a biologic being developed for several retinal diseases, including neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nMAD), diabetic macular edema (DME), diabetic retinopathy (DR), and retinal vein occlusion (RVO).
Retinal vascular diseases are among the leading causes of vision loss and are commonly treated with drugs that target proteins involved in abnormal blood vessel growth and leakage in the eye.
RO-104 is designed as a first-in-class tri-specific biologic that simultaneously targets three pathways linked to retinal disease progression: VEGF-A, VEGF-C, and Ang-2. According to the companies, the therapy has demonstrated stronger efficacy than currently approved anti-VEGF treatments in preclinical animal studies.
In addition to RO-104, the agreement gives Glaukos exclusive rights to RevOpsis' proprietary RevMod platform in multiple retinal diseases. The platform could be used to discover and develop up to four additional next-generation biologic candidates for retinal conditions.
The deal further expands Glaukos' growing retinal disease franchise and adds a new biologic candidate to its development pipeline. The company said the agreement also provides access to a discovery platform that may generate future treatment candidates across a range of retinal disorders.
Glaukos is an ophthalmic pharmaceutical and medical
technology
company focused on treatments for glaucoma, corneal disorders, and retinal diseases.
GKOS has traded between $73.16 and $191.62 over the past year. The stock is currently trading at $152.91, down 11.19%.
