Robinhood Chain meme

Meme Coins Fuel Rapid Growth of Robinhood Chain in Two Months

不做 Robinhood Markets(HOOD.US)

Robinhood Chain, the layer-2 blockchain launched by U.S. online brokerage Robinhood, has grown sharply in the two months since its debut, driven by an explosion of meme coin liquidity centered on the token launch platform Ponce. Analysts say the chain is scaling trading volume at an unusual pace for a new network as speculative Web3 activity attaches itself to real-world asset (RWA) infrastructure built on Robinhood's existing brokerage customer base.
Weekly meme coin trading volume on Robinhood Chain rose 156% to $3.5 billion in the period from the 25th to the 31st of August, from $1.4 billion between the 4th and the 10th, according to blockchain analytics firm Bitquery and other sources cited on the 5th. Wallets trading meme coins increased 98% to 797,000 from 403,000 over the same period. Robinhood Chain's volume as a share of Solana, which has led the meme coin boom, climbed to 8.3% from 3.3%. Meme coins are cryptocurrencies built around internet slang or characters, and their prices swing widely with online attention and community enthusiasm.
Robinhood launched the chain on July 1. It uses layer-2 technology that addresses Ethereum's speed and cost limitations. The network puts tokenization of real assets such as stocks at its core and was designed as an open system that anyone can build services on. Major decentralized finance services including Uniswap and Morpho are also available.
At the center of the boom is Ponce, a token launch platform. It is not operated by Robinhood but is an application built by an outside developer on Robinhood Chain. Users can create and trade a new token by entering a name, ticker and image and paying a small amount of ether (ETH), with no coding knowledge required. The simplicity of the process drew users quickly.
Fees have surged along with the influx of users. Users paid about $5.95 million in fees on Ponce over the previous 24 hours as of the 3rd, the fourth-highest among protocols tracked by DefiLlama, according to CoinDesk. Over the same period, total fees on Robinhood Chain came to about $4 million and those on Hyperliquid to about $2 million. In other words, a single third-party app generated more in user fees than the underlying blockchain itself.
What distinguishes Ponce is that token creation does not end as a one-off event but keeps drawing further trading. Fees are generated each time a token trades, and part of that goes to the creator of the token. The more tokens are created and actively traded, the more both the platform and creators earn.
The ability to pair tokens with tokenized stocks also sets Ponce apart from other meme coin launch platforms. On Ponce, users can set not only ETH but also stablecoins or tokenized stocks as the trading pair for a newly created token. While existing meme coins have traded mainly against cryptocurrencies such as ETH or solana (SOL), Robinhood Chain allows meme coins to be bought and sold using tokenized stocks.
The expansion of meme coin trading also feeds revenue back to Robinhood, because token creation and trading on Ponce all run through Robinhood Chain. Chief Financial Officer Shiv Verma said on the second-quarter earnings call that Robinhood earns a set percentage of revenue whenever a transaction occurs on the chain and shares about half of that with Arbitrum. Chief Executive Vlad Tenev said developers are using Robinhood Chain in ways the company "had not thought of." Meme coins and third-party services layered onto financial infrastructure designed around tokenized stocks have created an unanticipated growth engine.
Robinhood's existing users and financial infrastructure are also cited as reasons for the rapid growth. A typical new blockchain must attract users and liquidity from scratch after building its services, but Robinhood already has brokerage customers, tokenized stocks and its own wallet. For outside developers, that reduces the burden of building a user base separately and allows them to tap the assets and distribution Robinhood has secured.
Four Pillars Research described this as a "reverse growth formula" that inverts the sequence seen at other blockchains. Where existing blockchains attracted users through decentralized finance and meme coins before expanding into real-world assets and institutional finance, Robinhood Chain first assembled tokenized stocks and financial infrastructure and is now seeing meme coins pull in trading and liquidity, the firm said.
