Biogen Inc. (BIIB) and Eisai Co., Ltd. announced that LEQEMBI IQLIK autoinjector is now available in the U.S. for initiation therapy in adults with early Alzheimer's disease, including mild cognitive impairment and mild dementia due to Alzheimer's.
LEQEMBI IQLIK (lecanemab irmb) represents the first anti-amyloid treatment worldwide to offer at-home dosing from the start of therapy. The autoinjector provides a convenient alternative to intravenous infusions, with the approved initiation regimen consisting of 500 mg once weekly, delivered as two consecutive 250 mg injections in about 15 seconds each.
After 18 months of IV or subcutaneous treatment, patients may transition to maintenance dosing at 360 mg once weekly. The option to switch between IV and subcutaneous administration offers great erflexibility for patients and caregivers.
The availability of LEQEMBI IQLIK is expected to lower barriers to treatment by reducing clinic visits and infusion-related resource needs. At-home administration may ease the burden on patients and caregivers, while also streamlining healthcare delivery.
As with IV administration, brain MRI monitoring remains part of the safety protocol to assess amyloid-related imaging abnormalities (ARIA).
This launch expands Biogen and Eisai's Alzheimer's care pathway, marking a significant milestone in patient-centered treatment delivery.
