ULSAN — Hyundai Motor's (005380) labor union approved a tentative wage agreement, wrapping up 111 days of negotiations with management.
Of the 39,638 union members eligible to vote on the 2026 wage agreement, 31,166 cast ballots, a turnout of 78.63%, and 19,183 of them, or 61.55%, voted in favor, the union said on the 1st.
The two sides reached the tentative deal at their 16th round of main negotiations, held on Aug. 25 in the Donghaeng Room at the main building of the Ulsan plant, 111 days after talks began. With the vote now approved, the company and the union will hold a signing ceremony on the 2nd to formally conclude this year's wage negotiations.
The agreement calls for a monthly base pay increase of 100,000 won, including seniority-based raises, performance pay of 400% plus 12.7 million won, 15 company shares, 500,000 won in welfare points and a 200,000-won increase in summer vacation allowances.
Under a separate agreement, the company confirmed it will hire technical, or production, workers, taking on 200 in 2027 and 300 in 2028 for a total of 500 in phased hiring. The deal also includes extending the retirement age without expanding the wage peak system if relevant laws are revised, as well as withdrawing all damage claims and provisional seizures the company had filed against the union.
"Based on the approval of the tentative agreement, labor and management will devote all efforts to normalizing production in the second half," a Hyundai Motor official said. "We will produce vehicles of the world's best quality to repay our customers' support."
