不做 CJ CheilJedang(097950.KS)

South Korea's antitrust regulator has launched on-site inspections of the country's major fermented sauce producers.
The Fair Trade Commission has been conducting inspections since the 1st at five companies — CJ CheilJedang (097950), Daesang, Sempio, Pulmuone and Sajo Daerim — according to industry sources. The commission dispatched investigators to each company to examine how prices are set and what terms are applied in transactions involving gochujang, or red pepper paste, and soy sauce, with a focus on whether the companies engaged in price fixing or other improper concerted conduct, sources said.
The FTC has sharply stepped up scrutiny of price collusion in food and household necessities as part of efforts to contain consumer prices. This year the commission fined three sugar manufacturers a combined 408.3 billion won ($295 million) for price fixing, imposed 671 billion won on seven flour producers and levied 747.6 billion won on four makers of starch and starch sugar.
The sauce market has already drawn one collusion penalty. In 2011, the FTC found that CJ CheilJedang and Daesang had colluded on discount rates for gochujang products sold at large discount stores, issuing corrective orders and fines totaling 1.052 billion won. The commission also referred both corporations and the executives involved to prosecutors. The two companies were found at the time to have agreed to cap discount rates on promotional products at discount chains.
"We cannot confirm details of a matter under investigation," an FTC official said.
