The Prospector 5 jackup rig had an incident the night of Oct. 24 when it was preparing for drilling operations, Borr said in a statement on Sunday. The crew of 115 experienced a “punch through event” that resulted in a loss of stability and subsequent sinking, it said, citing preliminary information.
Search and rescue operations accounted for 110 people, while efforts continue to find five workers still missing, the company said on Monday. Shares dropped as much as 11.4% in Oslo before paring losses.
The rig was conducting drilling for explorer BW Energy Ltd., which holds a 73.5% stake in the Dussafu Marine license. Its shares fell as much as 14% on Monday. Panaro Energy has a 17.5% non-operated interest in the asset.
An investigation into the incident will be conducted with partners and authorities, while search and rescue is prioritized, according to Borr.
BW Energy shut output at the MaBoMo offshore production facility in accordance with standard procedure during ongoing drilling preparations, the company said. There’s been no reported damage to the facility.
