Ming Yang Smart Energy Group, one of China’s biggest wind turbine manufacturers, expects orders to pick up after a slow start to the year as renewable power projects progress through planning stages.
While demand for wind turbines was lower in the six months through June, “we expect to see an increase in the second half,” company Vice President Ye Fan said at briefing on Thursday. Orders were expected to reach 25 gigawatts for the year after surpassing 10 gigawatts in the first half, he said. The company reported 18.3 gigawatts of orders in 2025.
China’s wind industry has seen a slowdown in both domestic orders and installations after rapid deployment in recent years. The softer demand and weaker returns on wind power projects risk pushing the sector toward a repeat of the price war that roiled the market at the start of the decade, a major industry group has warned.

“There might be some anxiety in the industry but at present, it is still controllable. The sales price of the equipment and the purchasing willingness of customers has not decreased,” Ye said.
The recent decline in orders flowed mainly from the curtailment of generation capacity due to grid bottlenecks and the construction of large-scale renewable power projects still in the planning phase, according to Ye. But the impact of supportive government policies is starting to filter through. “There is a lag in the development of renewable power. Based on current projections, we still expect about 100 gigawatts of wind power to be connected to the grid this year,” he said.
The company is also continuing to pursue expansion in Europe, including exploring building a manufacturing plant in Spain, after the UK rejected its plan to build a facility in Scotland earlier this year.
“Europe is a market that we have been cultivating for a long time. We will continue to actively participate in this market and we are still exploring suitable possibilities,” Zhang Qiying, the company’s vice president for the international market, said at the same briefing.
