Blackstone Inc.(BX.US)

Stripe LLC is close to signing a lease to take space at a London office owned by Blackstone Inc, as the company seeks to accommodate its rapid expansion.
The fintech is nearing a deal to lease about 130,000 square feet (12,077 square meters) of space at Blackstone’s Broadgate Quarter office on the edge of the City of London, people with knowledge of the deal said. The company first agreed outline terms on the space earlier this year, according to a July report by broker Cushman & Wakefield Ltd.
The new office is more than triple the size of Stripe’s existing London footprint, a person with knowledge of the company’s current facilities said. The company’s UK headcount grew to an average of 340 people last year, up from 288 a year earlier, according to accounts for its local subsidiary.
Representatives for Blackstone and Stripe declined to comment on the lease talks.
“London’s prime office market benefits from strong occupier demand and a limited supply of high-quality space,” said Blackstone’s head of European real estate James Seppala. “Tenants are increasingly focused on the best-located, highest-quality buildings, creating a compelling backdrop for prime assets.”
The potential deal follows Stripe’s rapid expansion in Dublin, where the company plans to add 200 new roles. Last year, it tripled its office space in the Irish capital to 156,080 square feet.
It comes as the City of London faces a shortage of office space after a series of shocks and rapidly rising costs spooked developers. The district saw an 11% increase in the amount of space rented in the year to the end of September, according to data compiled by Savills Plc.
