Apnimed Inc., a late-stage drug developer focused on sleep apnea, leapt 38% on Friday after raising $192 million in an upsized US initial public offering.
Shares of the biotech firm opened at $22 apiece in New York, versus an IPO price of $16. The company sold 12 million shares after marketing 10 million shares for $14 to $16 each. The listing had attracted demand for multiple times the available shares and drawn sizable orders from long-only investors, Bloomberg News reported.
The trading gives the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based firm a market value of about $880 million, based on the outstanding shares listed in its filings with the US Securities and Exchange Commission.
The listing hits the US market following a busy first half of the year for stock sales from drug developers. New entrants in biotech and pharma have raised $5.4 billion so far in 2026, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. That’s up from just $969.2 million from the same period a year prior.
Apnimed is developing an oral tablet, Oxnimbi, to treat obstructive sleep apnea. The firm submitted an application to the US Food and Drug Administration in April to market the drug, according to its filings. The regulatory review is expected to take 10 months from application submission. If approved, Oxnimbi would compete with Eli Lilly & Co.’s Zepbound as the only therapeutics available to treat sleep apnea.
The company’s investors include Morningside Ventures, alternative asset manager Alpha Wave Global and Columbia Management, a unit of Ameriprise Financial Inc. After the offering, Morningside’s stake in the company was expected to fall to 18% from 25% while Alpha Wave was set to have a 19% stake, down from 26%.
Apnimed had net income of $67.7 million on revenue of $84.8 million in the three months ended March 31, compared with a net loss of $28.6 million on revenue of $3.1 million a year earlier, its filings showed.
The offering was led by Bank of America Corp., Evercore Inc., Cantor Fitzgerald and LifeSci Capital. Shares trade on the Nasdaq Global Market under the symbol APMD.
