HSBC Holdings Plc started its search for a new chief executive officer of its asset management unit to replace Nicolas Moreau, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
The bank’s representatives have reached out to potential candidates to gauge interest in the position, said the people, asking not to be identified as the matter is private.
Moreau, 61, joined HSBC in the role in 2019. He previously spent two years at Deutsche Bank AG as its head of asset management, and was also CEO of AXA Investment Managers, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Moreau reports to Barry O’Byrne, named CEO of HSBC’s international wealth and premier banking division two years ago. A spokesperson for the bank declined to comment.
HSBC Asset Management oversaw $928 billion of funds at the end of June, trailing the investment arms of large European rivals such as UBS Group AG and Deutsche Bank.
The money manager reported about $755 million of fee and other income in the first half of the year, up 4.7% from the prior year.
HSBC has undergone a shake-up since Moreau joined. Georges Elhedery, who took over as chief executive officer in September 2024, has implemented a broad restructuring of the lender, which has resulted in the sale, closing or merger of several businesses and hundreds of job cuts.
