Diageo Plc expects organic net sales to be broadly flat this fiscal year, underscoring the scale of the challenge facing new Chief Executive Officer Dave Lewis as he tries to overhaul the British distiller.
The maker of Johnnie Walker whisky and Guinness stout also said it expects North America’s organic net sales to decline mid-single-digit, according to a statement Thursday, following a 2% drop across all regions in the 12 months ended June 30.
Shares of Diageo soared as much as 11%, the biggest intraday gain since 2020, immediately after the results were announced. The company said it expects to return to growth in the medium term.
