Fortress Investment Group has appointed regional heads of private wealth for Europe and Japan as the alternative asset manager seeks to cater to rich clients outside the US for the first time.
Harry Bush will lead the EMEA business from London while Yuko Umino will run the Japanese unit in Tokyo. Both will report into US-based global co-heads of private wealth solutions Adam Bobker and Nils Wilson, according to a Fortress spokesperson.
“Demand for private markets continues to grow, really shifting from a base case 60/40 portfolio to a 50/30/20,” said Bobker. “And when we partner with many of the banks, they have requested that we have boots on the ground and teams on the ground to cover them effectively.”
Umino spent two decades at Pacific Investment Management Co. working in wealth management while Bush came from Nuveen, where he developed the firm’s UK wealth business tailored to private markets.
Alternative asset managers’ rush into private wealth has encountered signs of turbulence this year, as retail investors have sought to redeem their investments from some private credit funds, forcing managers to limit withdrawals.

Still, Fortress is planning further appointments as it looks to build out its wealth offering, according to a spokesperson. The firm plans to appoint an additional regional head for Asia Pacific and a representative to cover the Middle East reporting into Bush, he said.
