Bitcoin pushed back above $80,000 as enduring ETF demand and a brighter mood across speculative markets extended its rebound.

The advance came as technology shares surged after Nvidia Corp.’s outlook revived confidence in the artificial-intelligence trade. That cuts against the idea that Bitcoin needed investors to rotate out of AI winners to find its next leg higher. For now, both are benefiting from the same retail appetite for risk.

That matters particularly for crypto, an asset class unusually dependent on narrative and momentum. Improving prices tend to improve the story digital-asset investors tell about the market, which can draw day traders back in, lift volumes and ultimately create another source of demand. After months of falling prices and sour sentiment, simply restoring some enthusiasm can become part of the mechanism sustaining a rebound.

There are tentative signs that is happening. Wall Street is back projecting bullish prices while ETFs are seeing positive inflow again. Investors poured more than $2.6 billion into US Bitcoin ETFs over the past eight trading sessions, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

The digital asset was also trading at a premium on the biggest US exchange, Coinbase, versus Binance — the world’s largest — for the first time in about three months, potentially pointing to firmer US demand, according to data from Bitcoin Sistemi.

“That suggests institutional allocation through ETFs is returning, while broader US exchange demand is improving but has yet to become decisively strong,” said Lacie Zhang, a research analyst at Bitget wallet.

Bitcoin rose as much as 3% to around $80,797. The original cryptocurrency breached $80,000 this week for the first time since May in the wake of a record liquidation of leveraged positions. The token is still well below its all-time high of about $126,000 reached last October.

Getting beyond $80,000 shows trading momentum has survived beyond that initial squeeze; holding there will depend increasingly on investors choosing to buy rather than traders being forced to.

“We could rally through the weekend and the shortened trading week next week typically means less liquidity, but this might just support outsized moves,” Tim Meggs, CEO at trading firm LO:TECH, said in a message. “Liquidity is key to the next leg here.”
