Airbnb用前Tripadvisor/Booking高管Pepijn Rijvers替换首席商务官Dave Stephenson

Airbnb Inc. has replaced its chief business officer with a former executive of Tripadvisor Inc. and Booking Holdings Inc., underscoring its efforts to expand beyond home-sharing into new travel segments.

Pepijn Rijvers is succeeding Dave Stephenson in overseeing several business areas. In addition to short-term rentals, he will manage enterprise operations, global markets and the company’s growing hotels offering, Airbnb said Tuesday. Stephenson “will remain closely involved through the end of the year to support the transition,” the company said in a statement.

The nascent Services and Experiences segments, which Stephenson also oversaw, will report to Chief Experience Officer Hiroki Asai, an Airbnb spokesperson said. Fallon O’Connor, who is currently Airbnb’s vice president of communications, will expand her role to take on the employee experience organization, which Stephenson also led.

Airbnb, best known for pioneering the idea of home sharing, has been deepening its relationships with hotels and travel companies it had previously considered rivals, the latest in an ongoing effort to diversify beyond short-term rentals.

Last month, it struck a partnership with Tripadvisor that will later this year allow Airbnb users to book a selection of tours, activities and attractions from the tour-reservation site. It has also started offering boutique hotels, rental car bookings, airport pick-up and grocery-stocking services.

Stephenson joined Airbnb as its chief financial officer in 2019 ahead of its initial public offering and helped navigate the business through the pandemic, before becoming Airbnb’s first CBO in 2024.

In an email to employees announcing the news, Airbnb Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky praised Stephenson as a team player who held “three of the hardest jobs in the company, two of them at the same time.”

Rijvers’ appointment follows a spate of executive changes at Airbnb over the past year as several tenured leaders stepped down or retired. In January, the company hired Ahmad Al-Dahle from Meta Platforms Inc. to serve as chief technology officer, replacing Ari Balogh.

At Tripadvisor, Rijvers held a similar title overseeing the firm’s consumer businesses and was previously president of Viator. Before that, he spent more than a decade at Booking.com, including as chief marketing officer as well as a managing director overseeing its accommodation business.

In his email to staff, Chesky lauded Rijvers as a “true entrepreneur” who “stays close to the team at all levels and isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty.”
