Ally Financial Inc.(ALLY.US)

Ally Financial Inc., one of the largest US auto-finance firms, reported earnings that came in slightly above estimates as Americans continued to buy vehicles even in the face of inflation.
The lender reported a net interest margin of 3.62%, compared with the 3.61% estimated by Wall Street analysts. Adjusted diluted earnings per share totaled $1.34, above expectations of $1.33.
The results “provide another clear signal that our focused strategy is delivering results,” Chief Executive Officer Michael Rhodes said in a statement Tuesday.
Auto loan origination volume totaled $12.9 billion for the three-month period, climbing 10% from $11.7 billion a year earlier. That outperformed the expectations of analysts, who had predicted the figure would total $12.52 billion. The growth came even amid rising US consumer prices, which climbed in September at the fastest pace in five months, driven by a surge in fuel costs and keeping the squeeze on household budgets.
Ally shares were little changed at $37.60 at 7:22 a.m. in early New York trading. They were down 17% this year through Monday.
The company raised its guidance again for full-year average earnings assets to 5% to 6%. In July, the firm had raised its outlook to 3% to 5% for the full year. Ally had also expected its full-year consolidated net charge-off metric to fall between 1.2% and 1.3%. On Tuesday, it said that figure is “tracking toward low-end.”
