BP Plc named Ian Tyler chairman following an interim stint leading the board this summer, after the unexpected ouster of Albert Manifold in May.
Senior independent director Amanda Blanc, who led the search for Tyler and Manifold, will step down from the board, BP said in a statement on Wednesday.
Manifold was fired just eight months into the role after he was brought in to turn around the struggling oil major. Manifold said he was let go from BP without explanation, while the London-based company cited serious concerns related to Manifold’s “governance standards, oversight and conduct,” without elaborating.

Manifold’s removal consolidated the authority of Meg O’Neill — Big Oil’s first female chief executive officer and BP’s first external hire for the top job — who joined on April 1 and has already moved to reshape the company.
Tyler, who is currently chair of Grafton Group Plc and senior independent director of Anglo American Plc, joined BP’s board in 2025.
