“Obviously, there’s been a lot in the press” about so-called rogue agents, Boro told Bloomberg TV on Monday. “We don’t see that subsiding as buildouts take place. And at the consumer level, it’s definitely a time to tread more slowly.”
The executive spoke to Bloomberg days after Thoma Bravo-backed Proofpoint Inc. agreed to buy cybersecurity company Varonis Systems Inc. for about $6.3 billion — a 52% premium to Varonis’ closing price on June 22, before rumors of a potential deal emerged.
There’s been a surge of interest in AI security in recent weeks after reports of AI agents banding together on their own, raising fears that tech firms may lose control of the technology.

Thoma Bravo’s Proofpoint helps firms block threats such as phishing, malicious emails and other cybersecurity hazards. Varonis assists companies with monitoring and managing access to information on cloud systems. On Monday, Boro said Thoma Bravo expects Varonis to continue expanding.
“We see a lot of opportunity to continue to innovate,” he said. “This AI buildout is really only possible with this foundational cyber layer.”
