不做 强生(JNJ.US)
不做 直觉外科(ISRG.US)
不做 美敦力(MDT.US)

After more than a decade of research and years of delays, Johnson & Johnson now has a robot on the market for soft tissue surgery.
The company received its first US regulatory authorization for the robotic Ottava device, according to a release on Wednesday, a move that could give it a foothold into one of the fastest-growing areas of the surgery market.
The Food and Drug Administration cleared Ottava for certain upper abdominal procedures, including gastric bypass and hiatal hernia repair. The regulatory nod followed a 30-person trial that showed that complex gastric bypass operations could be done successfully with the robot in all cases.
It’s a big moment for J&J, which has spent billions since 2015 developing and acquiring robotic technology that could compete with Intuitive Surgical Inc.’s market-leading Da Vinci system.
While J&J already sells robotic systems for procedures such as bronchoscopies, it’s a latecomer to such devices for soft tissue, a category encompassing some of the most common operations, including hernia, gallbladder and hysterectomy surgeries.
Intuitive Surgical, which brought its first robot to the market in 2000, dominates the field with more than 11,000 systems installed around the world. More recent entrants include Medtronic Plc, whose Hugo robot was cleared for urologic surgery in the US in 2025, and UK-based CMR Surgical, maker of a device that received its first US authorization for gallbladder operations in 2024.
J&J says Ottava takes up 30% to 50% less space than other systems. Instead of developing a device that must be positioned next to the patient, it built four robotic arms directly into the operating table. They fold down under the table when not in use.
“The table is a robot and the robot is a table,” said Rocco De Bernardis, J&J’s global president for Ottava and MedTech, during an exclusive demonstration of the device for Bloomberg at the company’s Santa Clara, California, office. “There is nothing else like this on the market.”
While the initial clearance is limited to upper abdominal operations, J&J executives said they have designed the Ottava device to be capable of performing all the major types of procedures that robotic surgery is used for today. Another trial in groin hernia surgery is currently ongoing.
